The coronavirus pandemic has gained everyone’s attention as it rapidly spreads throughout the world. With new cases continuously being reported, this virus has caused a huge stir.

WHAT IS THE CORONAVIRUS

According to the CDC, a new case of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was detected in China in 2019 and has spread to more than 100 locations internationally. The disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019,” or “COVID-19.” There have been 938 cases of this respiratory disease found in the U.S. with a total of 29 deaths since January 2020. So far, it’s known that the cases reported have been travel-related and person-to-person spread, but a huge amount of cases are still under investigation. On January 31, Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency for the U.S. to help the nation’s healthcare community respond to COVID-19.

CDC’s updated information about COVID-19

Don’t be confused about symptoms of coronavirus versus other illnesses like the flu or a cold. Reported cases ranging from mild to severe share the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. If you believe you may have been in close contact with someone with these symptoms or have recently traveled to an area with a widespread of COVID-19, call a doctor.

PREVENTION IN COMMERCIAL FACILITIES

Preventing the spread of COVID-19 needs to be approached in many directions in commercial facilities. The CDC strongly recommends that routine cleanings are performed in locations with heavy foot traffic and work environments to avoid spreading the illness. Deep cleanings from a commercial cleaning service are also highly suggested to ensure all surfaces and areas are thoroughly sanitized.

With so much about COVID-19 still being unknown, it can be pretty stressful and unnerving for those who have to be in environments with many people. Help keep your employees and/or consumers at ease by using a commercial cleaning service who knows how to properly and safely disinfect common areas.

KEEP IN MIND

The causes and spreading of COVID-19 are still under investigation. The CDC reports that older people and people of all ages with severe underlying health conditions like diabetes, heart disease and lung disease are at higher risk of developing a serious COVID-19 illness. Preventive measures like washing hands thoroughly and staying home when you feel sick are strongly recommended to everyone.

The CDC continuously updates its website when more information becomes available.
